Articulation’s Director Angela was in attendance at the final weekend of FESTIVAL.ORG’s flagship Greenwich + Docklands International Festival (G+DIF).
This year’s G+DIF programme was truly innovative and engaging – despite unprecedented challenges.
Programme highlights include Dante or Die’s brand new commission for G+DIF, A Ballad of Thamesmead – an epic exploration of the area’s past and the vision for the future. It is a brilliant example of site-specific outdoor arts rooted in community engagement that powerfully contributes to a sense of place and belonging . Local voices provided a soundscape accompanied by contemporary folk musician Marie Bashiru and a trio of dancers.
Jeanefer Jean-Charles’ Patois is a glorious, apposite celebration of linguistic diversity in a city where over 300 languages are spoken and over 40% of its inhabitants are born outside the UK. Canadian contemporary ice-skating company Le Patin Libre continue to push creative boundaries, taking this unique performance art to the streets with a mesmerising incorporation of in-line skates, broadening the artform even further with Wheels & Cello.
London’s pioneering annual street arts festival continues to break new ground in outdoor performance. G+DIF reimagines the streets of London as accessible spaces for participation, congregation and transformation. In this climate of economic uncertainty for the arts G+DIF is a timely reminder of the need to celebrate the vast contribution made by outdoor arts and festivals and the crucial role they play linking people and place.
