Following last month’s performer call out, we’re delighted to share that Nancy Ahmar and Penny Chivas will be joining MoonSlide for performances of Buff & Sheen at Govanhill International Festival & Carnival (GIFC).
Produced by MoonSlide, Buff & Sheen will feature in three performances as part of the Govanhill International Festival & Carnival, which begins on Saturday 1 August and runs until Sunday 16 August. We’re delighted that artists Nancy Ahmar and Penny Chivas will join the company for the festival’s Opening Parade on Saturday 1 August, gathering at 12.30pm at the Queen’s Park Gates on Victoria Road before processing through the streets of Govanhill.
About Nancy Ahmar
Nancy is a Mexican dance artist and performer. Rooted in Bellydance, Middle Eastern, and Latin dance, her multidisciplinary practice blends movement, theatre, and storytelling to explore identity, migration, belonging, and female empowerment. She celebrates cultural heritage while challenging stereotypes and creating bold, joyful, and expressive performances.

About Penny Chivas
Penny (she/her) is a Glasgow-based dance artist originally from Ngunnawal Country, Australia. As a freelance performer she has worked on a variety of projects, including work by Ian Spink, Plan B, Scottish Opera, Christine Devaney, Lyra, Rosina Bonsu, Caroline Bowditch, Theatre Cryptic, Lisa May Thomas, Vanessa Grasse and Stillmotion involving both British and international touring, alongside creating work such as ‘Burnt Out’ which toured Scotland and beyond.
In 2013, Penny co-founded @TheGlasgowJam, Glasgow’s organisation for the growth and practice of contact improvisation, a practice she is still very much involved with. Penny is currently working on ‘Where We Choose to Stand’ which will head to the Edinburgh Fringe in August.
