Ruxy Cantir is a Moldova-born, US-trained, Glasgow-based physical theatre maker and performer. A Dell’arte International graduate (Masters of Fine Arts Degree in Ensemble Based Physical Theatre), she devises and performs original work for all ages, ranging from spectacle-based outdoor theatre to intimate indoor work using contemporary devising practices, Puppetry, Clown and Physical and Visual Theatre. Since moving to Scotland in 2015, she’s been awarded numerous grants to develop new indoor and outdoor work, including the 2021 APA/Eden Court/Capital Theatres Early Years Christmas Performance Commission, the Inaugural SURGE Street Theatre Bursary, the Clown Cabaret Bursary Award and the ScotRail Foundation/Foundation Scotland Cultural Arts Grant.

She’s worked with some of Scotland’s most notable arts organisations, including the National Theatre of Scotland, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Edinburgh International Festival, Scottish Youth Theatre, National Trust for Scotland. A recent CATS award nominee, she’s performed in various events and festivals with SURGE, Imaginate, Clown Cabaret Scratch Night, Tron Theatre, manipulate Festival, on STV’s only late night talk show The Late Show, and toured Scotland with a few shows, including her critically-acclaimed solo piece Pickled Republic.

She is a member of Single End Collective, an artist-run space in Southside Studios, Glasgow, co-founded LARDS Ensemble – a collective of Scotland’s five most prominent physical comedians, and is a board member for Articulation and Manipulate Arts.

I am a Scottish and Irish artist and choreographer based between Scotland and Denmark where I completed my MFA in Choreography. I present work in both dance and visual arts contexts. Formally trained in visual art, my practice is rooted in social dance through Bboying (Breakdancing) and House dance. Like the Gemini I am, my practice follows desire and pleasure in many directions at the same time, this has produced a practice that is equally social as it is conceptual, rhythmic as it is sculptural.

My work explores how We handle things; people, objects and how objects handle Us through: environments, architecture, and social structures. Specifically I am very interested in the power of dance to change and create new spaces and places.

Working in various collaborative roles of performer, artist, dramaturg, writer, I have worked with artists such as Jo Fong, Florence Peake, Colette sadler and Farah Saleh.

As an aerial dance artist I have had varied experience in performing both on the ground and in the air. I have had the privileged to work on some incredible shows, doing the weird and wonderful, such as dangling from a giant robot hand as a member of the stunt team with Wired Aerial Theatre in an Austrian Opera, Rigoletto, as well as getting to perform on a giant swing set with All or Nothing Aerial Dance Theatre, touring the UK for family audiences. As well as performing I also create work with my company TurnAround Dance Theatre; our most significant show was ‘The Thief, the Fox & the Phoenix’ an outdoor childrens theatre show fusing dance, aerial silks and singing.
Outside of my dance work, I’m currently training as a rigger (funded by Dancers Career Development ) completed my IRATA Level 1 in Feb 2024, this transition was inspired by my work doing counter weight for Paper Doll Militia’s show ‘Arthropoda’ in 2023. I also run a craft company A Moment Entwine with which I make macrame and macraweave artwork, I am a resident artist at Made in Stirling.
I relocated to Clackmannanshire during the pandemic and I now deliver classes as tutor and administrator for All or Nothing Aerial Dance. I’m very excited to see what the future holds and am eager to collaborate with other local dance artists, aerialists and creatives.

Jusztina is an Edinburgh based performance artist and director. She has an MA on Theatre Theory and a Diploma in Physical Theatre Practice, as well as over two decades of experience in circus and street theatre. Her work combines the diversity of performing arts: physical theatre, circus, dance, puppetry, visuals, music and clowning. Jusztina has been directing and mentoring multi art form performances internationally since 2002 as well as devising her own work with Scottish circus-theatre company Delighters.

As a performance artist she is passionate about creating work for all audiences, from site specific outdoor theatre to black box theatre shows, work created to audiences of all ages to small scale intimate theatre. Her fire-theatre shows were performed internationally at Festa Del Fuoco di Stromboli (Italy), Earagail Arts Festival (Ireland), Galway Arts Festival (Ireland), Sziget Festival (Hungary). As a freelance performer she works with Scottish companies such as Jabuti Theatre, Rowanbank, Circus Alba and Irish landscape theatre company LUXe on a regular basis. She directed and performed with Festa Del Fuoco Ensemble (I), CircusTheatre Production (H), Firebirds (H), Circonnection, ENCI, and Iron Oxide.

She mentors circus artists as well as curates and produces Scotland’s ongoing circus showcase Cirqulation. The event has been running since early 2018 with sold out performances, and after 2019 have been awarded funding from Creative Scotland and the National Lottery Fund.

I originally trained in dance before being persuaded to take my feet off the ground and try aerial arts. From there I was sold and performed internationally in aerial and dance for several UK & Irish Companies, directors, and in large scale events for over 20 years.
Currently I am Artistic Director of All or Nothing Aerial Dance Theatre, a company founded in Edinburgh in 2006. I direct and choreograph the majority of the company’s work including many outdoor performances. Also create opportunties to experience aerial at all levels and develop talent pathways for both those in the recreational and professional sector.
Outwith All or Nothing I mentor, teach and work as an aerial director, choreographer and advisor with a variety of companies across the arts sector.

Michelle is a Circus Artist with a Masters in Theatre and Performance Practices. She makes bold new work using a blend of circus imagery and theatrical conventions to heighten and expand the meaning and narrative of her work.
Michelle’s performance/deviser credits include the “No Show” by Ellie Dubois, “Nosedive” and “So Far So Good” by Superfan Performance, “Coppelia” by feathers of Daedalus, and other freelance creative projects in and around the UK. Michelle has performed her solo acts around the UK, most notably at Glastonbury, in London and in Edinburgh.
Michelle recently created and performed her 40 minute solo piece “Waiting” based on Waiting for Godot, directed the Aerial Edge Foundation Course students ensemble show “The Manor,” and has previously worked as an outside eye and movement director on the award winning “Everything I See I Swallow” by Shasha and Taylor Productions.
Michelle’s work combines Circus and Theatre in an intricate way to bring out the delicate balance between success and failure, and risk and reward, and how these can be used as a metaphor for viewing our internal lives.

Surge runs projects to develop outdoor arts, physical theatre and circus in Scotland. We work with artists, performance companies and educators at all levels of experience. We provide mentorship, support and professional development for artists at all stages of their career. We work with creative artists and communities through our Community Street Theatre Tour and through touring our large-scale community engagement projects. We deliver our annual Surge Festival in July, which brings new Scottish work and international performances to Glasgow audiences. We also run Techbox which is a space for professional artists, designers and developers to explore how technology can be incorporated into outdoor arts, physical theatre and live performance.

I am a freelance aerial and circus teacher in a variety of disciplines including trapeze, silks, and hoop and various circus toy box props including hula hoop and (very simple!) juggling.

Occasionally I perform in circus and physical theatre shows or with walkabout acts. Most recently I have performed at Beamish Halloween Nights as a hanged witch and as a walkabout moth stilts character at a wellbeing festival in Whitehaven. I have also worked with companies to devise full-length circus shows including an environmental show with Matrix Circus that we took to Eden Festival and a retelling of The Odyssey with Let’s Circus that we toured to various venues including Stockton International Riverside Festival.

The mission of Manipulate Arts is to champion, develop and present brilliant animated film, puppetry and visual theatre in Scotland and internationally.

Formerly known as Puppet Animation Scotland, all of our work is focused around artforms which breathe life into the inanimate or tell stories using primarily images rather than text. Aerial Edge has been Glasgow’s circus school since 2007, with professional and recreational classes and courses, training sessions and an act creation/rehearsal space – and of course our fabulous flying trapeze. It’s also a fantastic performance venue and we stage shows throughout the year. Our Pro Track Programmes are set up to allow customised part-time classes and self-training sessions for continuing professional development.

The four-week full-time Circus Intensive and four-month Foundation Course teach a wide range of arts and are designed for people who want to explore their circus potential. Then our One-Year Professional Development Course has been created for those who want to continue to build their skillset with a focus on one or two disciplines. It includes all the supporting classes to develop a well-rounded professional.
There are performance opportunities in all our full-time courses. In the Foundation Course and Professional Development Course, you’ll create and perform a solo/duo act and create an ensemble performance with a professional director.

Circus is for everyone – shape, size, age and experience aren’t barriers. People love the fun and friendly vibe at Aerial Edge, which allows you to explore your potential without fear. Our thriving Youth Circus has a performance pathway as well as student-led sessions where instructors offer guidance on technique while facilitating the freedom to find your own way through movements.

As a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC), we price everything as low as we can so that as many people as possible can find the joy of circus. Youth Circus has a Sponsored Places scheme.

Findhorn Bay Arts (FBA) is an award-winning creative producer of cultural events and activities rooted in the communities of Moray. We have grown from our first Culture Day celebration, held in 2013, to establish a year-round programme of high quality arts and cultural activities across the region, including the flagship biennial Findhorn Bay Festival.
We enable creative experiences across a wide range of artforms and genres, encouraging artists and communities to take expression in whatever form is most appropriate to them. We are committed to presenting work in site specific, outdoor and unusual locations that explore and celebrate the possibility of cultural activities to surprise and delight audiences.
Our programme has always had community participation, environment and regeneration at its heart and this has led to an increasing focus on engaged practice and co-production. I am a Glasgow-based artist, designer, and technician working nationally and internationally across theatre, music, dance, outdoor events, and visual art projects. Originally I trained as an actor and I now specialise in immersive practices, VR, digital design, projection mapping, 3D art, and installation work.

As a VJ and live video artist, I create visual shows for the main stages of festivals such as Creamfields and Riverside Festival, as well as for club nights. I am experienced in complex LED stage design layouts and producing original live visual content for artists such as Lewis Capaldi, Faithless, Basement Jaxx, and Simple Minds.

I also work as a video, lighting, and sound designer for companies including the National Theatre of Scotland, Dundee Rep, and Marc Brew & Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. . My work also extends to large-scale projection mapping of buildings such as Paisley Halloween, Articulate Cultural Trust, and Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party.

Recently, my personal projects have explored ecological themes, such as Strange Loop, an outdoor immersive installation in collaboration with artist Sita Pieraccini. In this work, participants collect local plants, which are used to create live compositions projected back onto the landscape using digital microscopes. Strange Loop has been performed at Kelburn Festival, Platform in Easterhouse, Galoshins Festival, and Dandelion Festival.

I am currently undertaking a year-long residency with Refractive Paisley (2024/2025), researching how digital art can communicate the urgency of the climate crisis. This includes mentoring local artists and culminating in a projection-mapped outdoor exhibition on Paisley High Street.

I am an artist who works across choreography, performance and participatory practice. I am interested in working with movement, the body, objects and materials that can reflect elements of the environment, history and people I see around me. My practice involves experiencing landscape through walking and wild swimming, gathering video and audio material, as well as found objects, stories and history from people locally. I am based in the Highlands and I collaborate with other artists from interdisciplinary fields to create live indoor and outdoor performance, digital/multi-media projects and community engagement events.

Performer and maker Zinnia Oberski has an extensive movement background, predominantly in circus. She uses elements of physical theatre, dance and performance art to break the traditional circus aesthetic of the superhuman and focus on a strength that can only be accessed through vulnerability. Zinnia’s physical work is visceral and hypnotic, speaking directly to the subconscious and the human animal in the language of the body. Zinnia works in a holistic way, treating mind and body as one cohesive entity.

Having come from a background involving hard physical training she looks for balance between strength and softness in both movement and intention – a way of training which challenges the bodymind in a fun and positive way. Zinnia’s creative work is multi-artform and makes use of many different styles and techniques. She takes influence from circus, physical theatre, dance, animal movement, performance art and clown to make authentic work that travels beyond the purely visual. She is currently working on a new clown/bouffon show (FRUITOPIA) and touring her solo aerial show Dreams of the Small Gods in Scandinavia and northern Europe.

I am a theatre maker, clown and director based in Glasgow, Scotland. After studying Drama and Physical Theatre in Scotland I trained further in clown, physical and outdoor theatre practices in Poland, Denmark, Italy and the UK.

I work on the assumption that through art we can articulate our experiences, reflect on them and imagine other possibilities. I strongly believe that this process should be accessible, relatable but can also embrace the non-realistic, highly stylised or abstract.

In 2022 I was awarded a Federation of Scottish Theatre Assistant Director Bursary. I currently facilitates a physical theatre class with health & wellbeing charity Nemo Arts.

– Fire safety tech for outdoor events big (Kelburn Garden Party, Beltane Fire Festival, Castle of Lights) and small (charity events with DeLighters). Includes fuel handling, setup/takedown and using appropriate equipment in case of emergencies. 6 years experience.
