Spotlight: Vince Virr

In this month’s spotlight, we’re delighted to feature an update from Vince Virr, an internationally renowned dance artist, choreographer, and educator who will tour two pop-up outdoor dance duets, throughout Scotland this Summer.

Thanks to Creative Scotland Touring Fund we will be touring my two pop-up outdoor dance duets Pop! and Then What throughout Scotland from June starting in
Aberdeen with Glasgow, Edinburgh, Rutherglen, Thurso, Orkney, Inverness, West Dunbartonshire and Inverclyde to follow this year! It is such a joy and privilege to work with amazing collaborators and share the dance work with others.

Some special moments really bring this to the for front; performing at Bradford Pride – my city of birth, in a beautifully colourful inclusive day, and, as part of the LGBTQ+ community I had been desperate to get Pop! into a pride for a long time and with my family able to watch it was so special! Also, at Belfast’s Young at Art festival where KJ made a friend for life with a child who saw themself in the work through him – moments we need more of.

This year we kicked off our tour at Sweden’s STEP Festival and also “brought the museum to life” (Museum Engagement Manager) through a the shows and a family
workshop taught a family workshop with all ages and abilities moving together in
space without judgement.

2025 saw us reach 5000+ audience folk, 16 festivals/events, 4 countries and 1 Pride!
This year we will reach thousands more and I can’t wait!

About Vince Virr

Vince Virr has performed, presented and collaborated dance works in 33 countries across six continents. Creating and performing exciting dance pieces in surprising places both on the ground and in the air, as well as traditional theatre settings. His own work explores the often hidden voices within rigid structures, giving visibility to those that feel pushed aside. He is passionate about work for young audiences, cross-cultural exchange and intergenerational participation.
