In this month’s spotlight, we feature an update from Riccardo Olivier, Producer with MoonSlide, who are set to tour their show SOUP! from the Borders to Shetland this summer. He also tells us about their plans to deliver a vibrant programme of community performances and collaborations at the Govanhill International Festival and Carnival.

An exciting year lies ahead for MoonSlide, the dynamic artistic duo of Suzi Cunningham and Alex McCabe! Thanks to the Creative Scotland Touring Fund, we will be performing SOUP! from the Borders to Shetland, collaborating with an amazing network of partners and friends. As always, we will make every effort to reach people who have little or no access to art—such as those in care homes, schools, youth clubs, and rural areas. We are also delighted to be collaborating with Deaf groups and the Govanhill Festival, where we will be hosting three events.
On the 1st of August, Buff and Sheen will be doubled! Thanks to two new performers joining us, supported by Articulation, we will be multiplying the colourful choreography, smiles, laughter, jumps, and babbles in the festival’s opening parade. Find the open call here. Gathering at 12:30pm at the Queen’s Park gates (on Victoria Road), please join us and bring your friends along! Let’s celebrate positive neighbourhoods, solidarity, mutual support, and shared joy.
On the 2nd of August, we will perform SOUP! twice at the Autonomous Space—its Glasgow premiere following a successful preview at the Platform theatre in May. Please let the festival organisers know if you have any food allergies.
On the final day, the 16th of August, we will perform Buff & Sheen at the Community Newsroom alongside other outdoor performances. It promises to be an exciting day immersed in Victoria Road, where the performing arts will hopefully help to break down those invisible cultural bubbles that stop true integration. Biases often dictate which pub or restaurant we choose; racism, classism, Islamophobia, Romaphobia, and other discriminations are not just political wepons—they exist within us all. To fight them, we must make active, radical choices and take daily action, both individually and within our communities.
