Join Articulation – Scotland’s advocacy organisation for outdoor arts, circus and spectacle – for this exploration of some of the challenges and successes of international collaboration. Delve into cross border partnerships, examining some of the creative, cultural and linguistic differences, questioning how these are overcome, celebrated and embraced and how these inform the creative process of international co-creation. This session will include a panel discussion with leading Scottish and International Circus and Outdoor Artists followed by a structured networking session with an exploration of the themes discussed during the panel and share practical tips about developing international partnerships.    

  • Who: Open to all Fringe participants with an interest working in circus and outdoor arts. 
  • Why: To learn practical tips for developing international partnerships.

Panellists

Vee Smith (Circus Performer and Producer)

Vee Smith will host our Beyond Borders event. A freelance Artist and Producer, Vee works at the intersections of Circus, Physical Theatre and Contemporary Performance Practice. She is a graduate of the National Centre for Circus Arts, University of Glasgow and a Leverhulme Award Recipient. She currently serves on the board of Articulation.

Pamela Walker (Senior Producer, Imaginate)

Pamela has over 20 years of experience as an arts producer and has been with Imaginate since 2016. A graduate of Queen Margaret University with a BA (Hons) in Drama and Theatre Arts, she co-founded a producing company and spent 10 years with the National Theatre of Scotland (NTS) as Learn Project Manager and Producer where she specialised in touring, community engagement, and site-specific productions. At Imaginate, she produces the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival, oversees Theatre in Schools Scotland, and manages creative development and other key international projects. She is also the current designated Child Protection Officer. Pamela is a board member for the Brunton Theatre Trust.

 David Ullrich (Copenhagen Collective)

David was born and raised in Hagen, Germany. Having found his love for gymnastics at age 6, he gradually got sucked deeper and deeper into the circus world until he graduated from the Academy for Modern Circus in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2017, focusing on partner acrobatics and juggling. After a few years working all across Scandinavia and starting university in Germany he returned to Denmark to join the Copenhagen Collective for their first creation in 2024. When he is not juggling people or objects, David attends medical school in the south of Germany (@svulstrich)
